Point-of-Care Tools
CI's point-of-care tools include clinical guidelines, algorithms,
protocols, patient education and CME's. Through
CI's Guidelines Acceptance Program, clinical coaches of CI
collaborate with healthcare providers to develop research-driven
clinical guideline programs as a strategy to improve population-based
wellness and disease.
Point-of-care
tools are customized for each hospital and may include physician
protocols, nursing protocols, patient education tools, pharmacotherapy
protocols, dosing guidelines, coding guidelines, documentation
guidelines, clinical algorithms, standing orders, emergi-protocols,
admission guidelines, indications, discharge tools, etc. The
following are examples of decision support tools developed
by physicians and multidisciplinary team members to target
an improvement opportunity identified.

Clinical Guidelines
are part of a large-scale effort to promote consistent patient
care processes and improved clinical outcomes within the healthcare
industry. They are considered an evidence-based approach
for treating specific diseases; providing recommendations
to assist with the decision making processes when diagnosing,
managing and/or preventing a specific medical condition.
Research
has demonstrated that the development and dissemination of
clinical guidelines leads to favorable changes in health care
delivery and clinical outcomes; however, not without barriers.
To
successfully overcome the challenges to implementing guidelines,
CI facilitates a collaborative approach involving physicians
and clinicians, patients and their families, and the health
care system. This is a core component of CI's methodology
and success strategies. Clients of Clinical Intelligence
involved in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
have the opportunity to access, individualize and incorporate
EBM Solutions' evidence-based guidelines into their individual
care processes. CI
will help hospitals translate evidence into practice through
the development, implementation and evaluation of point-of-care
decision support tools.
